A24 is in talks to acquire the film package for a biopic that will focus on the late Antonio BordainIt has also been reported that The survivors‘ Dominic Sessa she was chosen to star in the film.
The film will be titled Tonyand will be directed by Matt Johnson (Blackberry) and produced by Time AND Trevor White from Academy Award-nominated production company Star Thrower Entertainment, along with Matt MillerPreviously they produced King Richard.
Loredana Howe AND Todd Bartels wrote the screenplay for the film, but there are no details about what parts of Bourdain’s life the project will focus on. Sessa is 21 and could easily be aged if needed. So there’s a whole decade in Bourdain’s life that the film could explore.
Anthony Bourdain was a renowned American chef, author, and television personality who left an indelible mark on the culinary world and beyond.
Born on June 25, 1956 in New York City, Bourdain developed a passion for food at an early age, later attending the Culinary Institute of America. He rose to prominence with his 2000 book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Belly, a frank and often raw look at the restaurant industry.
This book not only showcased his sharp wit and storytelling ability, but also catapulted him into the spotlight as a spokesperson for the often hidden side of professional kitchens.
Bourdain’s fame continued to grow with his foray into television, where he hosted several hit shows that combined his love of food, travel, and culture.
His most notable series, Anthony Bourdain: No reservations AND Unknown partsallowed viewers to discover cuisines and cultures from around the world through his unique perspective.
Bourdain was known for his fearless exploration of both celebrated and overlooked culinary traditions, as well as his ability to connect deeply with the people he met, whether they were renowned chefs or local cooks.
His approach was characterized by a deep respect for different cultures and an insatiable curiosity about the world.
Tragically, Anthony Bourdain’s life ended prematurely when he committed suicide on June 8, 2018 in Kaysersberg, France, while filming an episode of Unknown parts.
His death came as a shock to his fans and to the world of cooking and entertainment: many mourned the loss of a man who had brought so much of the world into their homes.
Bourdain’s legacy lives on through his writing, his television work, and the profound impact he had on how people view food and travel as gateways to understanding other cultures.
I’m curious to see how this film project develops, but I like the talent involved, so it could be a solid production.
