Shawn Levy Confirms Patrick Stewart “Was Never Considered” to Reprise Role as Professor X in DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE

There have been a lot of surprising and fun cameos in Marvel Deadpool and Wolverinebut there are some that fans have made assumptions about that didn’t come true.

One of these rumors was that Patrick Stewart would have returned as Charles Xavier, which wouldn’t have been that shocking, given that Stewart had starred alongside Jackman in several The X-Men films dating back to the 2000 original, then again in 2017 Loganwhich served as a swan song for both Jackman and Stewart.

Stewart then surprised fans when he reappeared as Professor X in Marvel’s 2022 flagship film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessleading some to believe he may make another cameo in Deadpool and WolverineBut the director by Shawn Levi He stressed that there was never even any talk of Stewart returning.

Levy has silenced rumours about the Happy Sad Confused podcast in which he explained:

“We’ve never talked about it. And it’s been studied. Studied a lot by Emma Corrin because Cassandra’s sisterhood with Professor X is really interesting to us. But no, we’ve never talked about it. Never, ever considered it.”

It just wasn’t the path of this particular story in the timeline it was set in. Jackman previously told SiriusXM that he was returning for this film:

“It’s all because of this device that they have in the Marvel world to move between timelines. Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So, I don’t have to mess up the ‘Logan’ timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably for the fans as well.”

Every character and cameo was carefully chosen to tell the story in the film. While Patrick Stewart’s Professor X was not part of this timeline, I don’t think it would be unreasonable to rule out seeing him return in the future, especially considering the multiverse is a key part of the next phases of the MCU.
