A BAT BOY Series Coming to Netflix From the Creator of RIVERDALE

The showrunner and creator of Riverdale, Roberto Aguirre Sacasais developing a series based on the ’90s tabloid character Bat Boy with One Piece producer Joe Tracz, and Netflix has acquired the project.

The series is based on the Bat Boy character, who first appeared in the supermarket tabloid Weekly World News, and is being developed as a teen horror comedy.

This funny Bat Boy character has already appeared on stage in the Off-Broadway show Bat Boy: The Musical, but this series has nothing to do with that.

Here’s the description released for the series: “In the coming-of-age series, the main character is a teenager named Bobby Bates.

“With the help of his teenage classmates Charisma and his quirky sister Olive, Bobby reintegrates into society after living in isolation on the outskirts of the city amid the remains of a long-dead carnival.

“When Bobby enrolls at Cypressville High, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery as he tries to find his place among his new peers and in society, and tries to solve a mystery emerging from the Florida swamps.

“All this while flaunting his bat-like features, like sharp teeth and pointed ears… oh, and there’s also the small matter of his need for human blood.”

I can’t believe they’re doing a Bat Boy series, but it might be weirdly entertaining. In the 90s, Batman’s story was told in the Adventures of Batboy comic strip in Weekly World News.

The stories always had him on the run from shady government agents and, sometimes, he would be captured, only to escape and start over again.
