BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s Ronald D. Moore Shares His Thoughts on Sam Esmail’s Reboot

Sam Esmail has developed a reboot of Battlestar Galactica for quite some time, and the last time we heard of it, The Sinner Creator Derek Simonds joined the project as writer, executive producer and showrunner.

During a recent interview with CinemaBlend, by Ronald D. MooreThe creator of the 2000 series was asked to talk about the new reboot and whether he felt any responsibility for the intellectual property.

He said, “It’s just like, good riddance, you know? Like you said, I’ve rebooted and reinvented or whatever term we want to use so far. Far be it from me to blame anyone else for doing the same thing.

“And Sam Esmail called me personally and was like, ‘Hey, you know, I want to do this. Are you okay with that?’ And I was like, ‘You don’t really need my permission, but I appreciate it!’ It was a great call, and I wish him the best of luck.”

Moore previously explained that he and Esmail had discussed the upcoming show and discovered that, during their conversations, rather than starting from scratch, Esmail intended to keep his show in the same universe as Moore’s.

He said: “Sam called me and was very kind, he didn’t pitch me the story, so I don’t know. But he said his plans and that he wasn’t going to reboot the show and change the cast, but he wanted to do something in the same universe.

“Sam is incredible and I love Mr. Robot. I was like, you know, ‘You’re an incredible guy and an incredible writer, go with God!'”

Earlier, when giving an update on the project, Esmail said, “I just read a great schematic and it’s in great shape. Since the strike is over, at least the WGA strike is over, we’re back to developing it.”

I’m really interested to see how this next one goes. Battlestar Galactica It turned out, but with Esmail leading the charge, I’m sure it will go great!
