Actor Matthew Lillard is in negotiations to join the upcoming Carrie television series from director Mike Flanagan for Amazon MGM Studios. The specific role Lillard might play in the production has not been revealed.
The project marks a new collaboration between Lillard and Flanagan. The pair previously worked together on the Stephen King adaptation The Life of Chuck, which also stars Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill. That film won the People's Choice Award at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and arrives in theaters on June 6.
Flanagan will write, executive produce, and direct selected episodes of the eight-episode series. Amazon MGM Studios is supporting the adaptation, with Flanagan's longtime producing partner Trevor Macy also on board. Flanagan previously created Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher, and The Haunting of Hill House.

The series adapts Stephen King's 1974 debut novel about Carrie White, a shy girl with telekinetic powers. The story follows her experiences with relentless bullying at school and psychological torment from her religious fanatic mother. Summer H. Howell is set to star as Carrie White, while Siena Agudong will play her classmate and antagonist Sue Snell.
This television series is the latest screen adaptation of the novel following four feature films. The best known version is the 1976 film directed by Brian De Palma and starring Sissy Spacek. Flanagan's adaptation promises a fresh approach that combines psychological horror with emotional narration.

He is returning to Marvel for Daredevil: Born Again and is working on an action thriller for Amazon MGM Studios.
