Bob Odenkirk Opens Up About Losing Michael Scott Role in THE OFFICE

Bob Odenkirk He has held more than one hundred acting roles throughout his long career, with memorable roles in numerous films and shows.

His biggest breakthrough came in the form of the character of Saul Goodman, who transcended from breaking Bad to its prequel, Better call Saulin which he excelled. But that breakthrough came after he auditioned for the now iconic role of Michael Scott in The officewhich ended up going to Steve Carellprojecting him to the next level of stardom.

Odenkirk appeared in a season 9 episode of The officewhere he played the character of Mark, a boss with a personality very similar to Michael Scott.

She spoke about her small role and losing the bigger part in a recent appearance on Office gentleman podcast with Jenna Fisher AND Angela Kinseywhere he explained why he thinks he lost the role:

“I’m, in a way, a very serious person for someone who works in comedy. I’m weirdly serious, and… that’s one of the reasons I think Steve Carell is better, you know, he got the role. I think I carry a little too much serious seriousness with me. And it’s there. And there’s nothing I can do about it other than play other roles where it’s useful to have it.”

For what it’s worth, Odenkirk played a really awkward boss in the episode he appeared in, so I think he can bring humor and awkwardness when needed. He’s a great actor.

But both her career and Steve Carell’s career were great, so things just fell into place.

Most recently, Odenkirk appeared last year in his own one-season series Lucky Hankand played an explosive character in the incredible, star-studded season two episode The bear titled “Fish”.

He is working on the sequel to the action film Nobody 2currently in pre-production, scheduled for release next year.
