The most recent episode of The Acolyte revealed some new details about Mae and Osha, and gave rise to some fan theories about how they might be as powerful as Anakin Skywalker.
Showman Leslye Promontory addressed these theories and explained that Mae and Osha will never be as powerful as the Chosen One.
This week’s episode of The AcolyteTitled “Choice,” it took us back to the events of Mae and Osha’s past to reveal what really happened on Brendock all those years ago when the Jedi showed up. It’s here that we learn some details about how the two characters came to be.
It turns out that the sisters are not twins at all and were created by the coven through a convergence of the Force on the planet and are essentially two halves of the same being.
Details have been left intentionally vague, but Headland says we’ll find out more in next week’s finale.
In an interview with Nerdist, Headland said, “Tune in next week. Tune in next week. We’re definitely not going to leave you hanging.
“If you do a show like this, you take a lot of risks, you don’t save a lot of those questions for season two. There are a lot of things you save for season two, but that question is not one of them.”
As for theories that Mae and Osha might be more powerful than any Jedi, including Anakin Skywalker, Headland shot down that idea.
He said, “It’s like when you do an experiment and it’s the first round. Maybe they’re not the first, but they’re one of the first experiments of this particular use of power. So the twins are weaker than Anakin, for sure.
“They will not be worthy of what the Chosen One will eventually become. They will never be able to reach what he is, because in my mind, Aniseya could only do so much. She is not powerful enough to create a person.”
“The twins have separated, Aniseya’s power has split, and so a lot of her philosophy is about the power of two. About them having to stay together. They have to stay together. The twins are stronger together if she keeps them together.
“And obviously there’s an analogy to this of the isolationist sentiment, not just of the coven, but of the family. ‘If I can keep you safe, if I can keep you safe then you won’t get hurt. You won’t get hurt.'”
Mae and Osha have yet to unleash their full potential, and we will most likely see that in the finale, when they join forces.
