THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER Season 2 – First Image of a Hill Troll

We have a new image to share with you from the second season of Prime Video’s epic fantasy series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

The image offers a first look at a hill troll. We met the cave troll in Peter Jackson’S The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ringand the first season of The Rings of Power featured a Snow Troll.

This hill troll is called Damrod, and he is known as the “dragon bone eater”. Damrod is voiced by Benjamin Walker and co-showrunner Patrick McKay shared:

“[He] was inspired in part by Mike Ehrmantraut In breaking Bad AND Better call Saul. If you look at the way he moves and his effortless sense of strength.”

The series is set “thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’S The Hobbit AND The Lord of the Ringsand will take viewers back to a time when great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the thinnest thread, and the greatest villain Tolkien had ever created threatened to plunge the entire world into darkness.

“Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows a cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared resurgence of evil in Middle-earth.

“From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the Elven capital of Lindon, to the extraordinary island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest corners of the map, these kingdoms and characters will leave a legacy that will live on long after they are gone.”

In season two, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without an army or allies, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will.

“Building on the epic scope and ambition of the first season, Amazon’s second season The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power immerses even its most beloved and vulnerable characters in a growing tide of darkness, challenging each of them to find their place in a world increasingly on the brink of destruction.

“Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are tested and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good fight ever more bravely to hold on to what matters most to them… themselves.”

Season two director Charlotte Brändström spoke about the upcoming series, saying: “What I know and can say for sure is that it will be darker, bolder and more character-driven.

“I still think we have some really interesting episodes coming up. I watched them all over Christmas, just the cuts. I think it’s going to be a really good season.

“We tried to make it a little grittier, a little dirtier, I think. And not in the image, but to make it as authentic as possible. There are also some very surprising twists.”

The series is developed by the showrunners Mr. J.D. Payne AND Patrick McKay. The Rings of Power Season 2 will debut on Prime Video on August 29.
