The Jim Henson Company is looking to sell its iconic studio and the family is currently in the process of making it happen. The Jim Henson Company Lot was formerly A&M Studios and before that Charlie Chaplin Studios.
According to the company, the sale is “part of a long-term strategy to bring the Jim Henson Company and our renowned Burbank-based Jim Henson’s Creature Shop under one roof, which is not feasible in Hollywood due to the space the store requires”. .”
It has been the home of the Jim Henson Company since 2000. While they sell the lot, the company plans to continue as a tenant at the La Brea location.
The lot was originally built in 1919 and has one of the richest histories of any Hollywood studio. It was purchased by the family in 1999.
Brian Henson, president of the Jim Henson Company, said at the time: “When we heard the Chaplin lot was for sale, we had to have it. It’s the perfect home for the Muppets and our particular brand of classy yet quirky entertainment.”
When the family purchased the lot, Lisa Henson, CEO of the Jim Henson Company, described the space as a “lovely mix of quirky and unusual spaces. There are unexpected elements in some offices, such as original vaults and aquarium-like bathrooms. It’s not your typical corporate space, but it’s ideal for the Muppets.”
It’s really ideal for the Muppets! It’s a fantastic studio to visit if you ever have the opportunity!
