This week’s retro trailer is for the 1985 martial arts comedy, No retreat no surrender and this is one of those movies that embodies all the ridiculous things we loved about the 80s.
The story centers on Jason Stillwell, a young karate enthusiast and Bruce Lee fan who moves to Seattle with his family after his father’s dojo is attacked by a local crime syndicate.
Struggling to fit in at his new school and facing bullying from local karate students, Jason’s confidence is at an all-time low.
However, his life changes when the ghost of Bruce Lee appears to him, offering him guidance and training. Under Bruce Lee’s tutelage, Jason hones his skills and gains the confidence he needs to face his adversaries.
The film’s climax sees Jason participate in a martial arts tournament where he faces the union’s enforcer, Ivan, played by Jean-Claude Van Damme in one of his first roles.
With determination and new skills, Jason triumphs over Ivan, restoring honor to his family and standing against the criminal forces that threaten his community.
