Josh Lucas says that throughout his career his good looks have often led to him getting fired in Hollywood

Josh Lucas he is best known for his roles in Sweet home Alabama, Path of Glory, Ford-Ferrari, Yellowstoneand more recently the series Royal Palm. The guy’s a great actor, and he’s clearly nice to watch, but he says he hasn’t always been the asset in Hollywood that you’d think he would be.

Lucas told Chloë Sevigny in a conversation for Vanity Fair:

“Frankly I got completely fired for this. It was like, ‘Oh, you’re a TV guy from Los Angeles.’ You’re a nice TV guy from Los Angeles.’ I couldn’t break down that door. And then frankly it was always a little bit of ‘Oh, you’re a Sweet Home Alabama guy.’

I consciously – and I probably caused very serious damage to my career – I was trying so hard to fight it. I’ve made a thousand independent films that no one has seen. I tried to be Sean Penn in all of them.

He continued saying:

“It’s fun to go now [Palm Royale] and have people say, “Oh, you’re funny!” I can’t tell you how much I’ve wanted to go back and do this for years. It’s actually the place that I think is the most interesting, rewarding and difficult from an acting perspective.

In Apple’s Royal PalmLucas plays Douglas Darby Dellacorte-Simmons, the black sheep of a high-society family who is supposedly the sole heir of his grandmother Norma Dellacorte (Carol Burnett).

In March, Lucas told Deadline that “as far as he knows,” he will reprise his role as young John Dutton in Yellowstonewhich is back in production.

The second half of season five will premiere on Paramount Network in November. Lucas said: “I texted Taylor [Sheridan] a couple months ago and I said, ‘hey man, I loved working on the show so much.’ He says ‘well, we’ll be back’.”

It’s hard to feel bad for the guy who’s just too good looking to get the roles he’s looking for in Hollywood. But I’m happy that he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves.
