DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE director reveals there were ‘early conversations’ about what wasn’t planned for the film

Deadpool and Wolverine may be Marvel Studios’ first R-Rated feature film, but that doesn’t mean they could have done everything they wanted, or gone through with some of the film’s risqué jokes.

Director Shawn Levy recently revealed that there were initial conversations about what could and couldn’t be in the film, specifically mentioning “overt drug use.”

During an interview with Total Film, Levy shared, “I’m very wary of what I can say, but certainly there were initial conversations about overt drug use.”

Those conversations ended up inspiring the creative team to put a scene in the film about it! Feige said, “And we thought it was an interesting conversation. Let’s actually write a dialogue scene about having had it.”

This moment also appeared in the film’s trailer as Deadpool referred to cocaine as “the only thing”. [Marvel Studios head] Kevin [Feige] says it’s out of the question.”

In the scene, Deadpool scolds Blind Al (Leslie Uggams) for offering up some “Bolivian marching powder.”

So while discussing what Levy and his team could and couldn’t put in the film, they found a way around a few things.

I’m sure there are things that were completely off-limits for this film, but nothing that takes away from the story they want to tell. It seems like everyone on the creative team is very happy with the freedom Marvel and Disney have given them.

Writers Rhett Reese AND Paul Wernick they previously said the studio was “very helpful and supportive” of their vision for the film.

Reese said, “It’s almost like putting on a comfy old sweater. Marvel has really given us the support to maintain the tone and vision that we have for this.

“They were very helpful and supportive, but they also let us do what we do. So really, it was just fun. We’re mad scientists in the lab again.

“Deadpool is our favorite and will always be the character I think we are most associated with, and we are very grateful to have been given permission to write him again.

“So it’s great. It’s like going back to school again after having a summer off. It’s pretty funny.”

Speaking about the support they’ve received from Marvel and Disney, Reese also said, “Don’t worry, they’ve been very supportive about it.

“Now, when it comes to a particular joke, if we cross the line, maybe at some point we’ll hear, ‘Maybe not that joke.’ But I think they’ve been incredibly supportive of what we’re doing, because obviously we’ve been doing it separately from them for a long time, and I think they’ve seen the success and have had their own even greater success.

“So I hope it will be a perfect wedding. But we definitely have their support and that’s a great thing to hear.”

Marvel Studios presents their most significant blunder to date – “Deadpool and Wolverine. A listless Wade Wilson struggles in civilian life. His days as a morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, are behind him. When his home planet faces an existential threat, Wade must, reluctantly, suit up again as an even more reluctant… reluctant? More reluctant? He has to convince a reluctant Wolverine to… Fu-k. The synopses are so damn stupid.

The existential threat in the film is Cassandra Nova, the evil twin sister of Professor Charles Xavier of the X-Men who poses a threat to the multiverse.

This whole story will lead Deadpool to change the history of the MCU as he and Wolverine leap across the multiverse in a crazy adventure.

Shawn Levy is directing the film and the film’s confirmed cast includes Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Emma Corrin in the role of Cassandra Nova, Morena Baccarin AND Stefan Kapicic like Vanessa and Colossus, Matthew Macfadyen as a TVA agent e Leslie Uggam in the role of blind Al.

They are united by Brianna Hildebrand AND Shioli Kutsuna, who will also return to the franchise as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Negasonic Teenage Warhead’s girlfriend, Yukio. This had already been confirmed Jennifer Garner she will return as Elektra in the film.
