Paramount Pictures recently screened some footage of Ridley Scott’S Gladiator 2 at the 2024 CineEurope fair, and was the main event of their presentation.

While we got to see some great footage from the film at CinemaCon, according to Variety, CineEurope attendees were treated to some epic, never-before-seen extended footage from the film.

Before the footage was screened, Scott said in an introductory video that this sequel was “worth the wait.” Paramount’s president of international film distribution, Marco Vianehe also praised the film, stating that it features some of the “greatest action sequences ever put on film”.

This is a big fuss! While I’m sure the film will feature some epic action sequences, I doubt they will be the biggest ever put into film. There are so many incredibly epic action sequences that have been put into films and I don’t see how anything can top what The Lord of the Rings delivered.

There are so many movies with huge action sequences, so it’s hard to believe that Gladiator 2 will feature the biggest movie ever made. But we’ll have to wait and see.

The sequel focuses on Lucius, son of Lucilla and grandson of Commodus, son of the Roman leader Marcus Aurelius who killed his father and seized the throne.

Commodus met his downfall in the gladiatorial arena against Maximus, who despite being mortally wounded, defeated the emperor before dying to be reunited with his family. Maximus had saved Lucius and his mother, leaving a lasting impact on the boy.

Scott revealed some additional details about the story, particularly for Lucius, who he is played by Paolo Mescal in the film, saying: “[Lucius] he’s been in the desert for…let’s see, we last saw him when he was 12.”

He added: “It’s been about 12, 15 years, he’s been in the desert having lost contact with his mother. His mother has lost contact with him. She doesn’t know where he is. She thinks he might be dead.

Movie stars Paolo Mescal like Lucio, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen come back as Lucilla, and Stranger things star Joseph Quinn as Emperor Caracalla. Fred Hechinger will play Emperor Geta.

The film will be released in theaters on November 22nd!
