Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ended with a big cliffhanger, and ever since then we’ve been eagerly waiting to see how the story will continue in the next film, Spider-Man: Beyond Spider-Verse.
The creative team is hard at work developing the third film, and now the film’s composer Daniel Pemberton has offered an update and some insight into the pressure everyone feels to deliver a big conclusion to the story.
Pemberton obviously won’t share any details about the story, but admitted that the team hopes to avoid the mistakes made by other film trilogies and explains that they don’t want to “Godfather It.”
He said: “They’re working hard as we speak and I think the main thing for everyone is that we’re so proud of what we’ve done with these films and if you want a classic trilogy, you don’t want to let it down.” , You do not want Godfather It. We feel extra pressure: in all caps, underlined, with a big exclamation point at the end.”
Pemberton added that he also wants fans to know that the next film will continue to push boundaries and offer something new to audiences.
He said: “I think with these films we’ve always said ‘what do we want to see, what do we want to experience, what will excite us?’ I always think about the audience but about myself as the audience: how will I best respond to this scene?
“If you do it in a way you’ve heard a million times before, it gets boring. I’ve seen it in so many movies: Either you reheat an old meal or you make something fresh, and we’re always trying to figure out how to do the latter. But the bar has been set.”
The composer goes on to explain why these films and soundtracks have resonated with audiences by saying, “Another reason why these films and soundtracks have resonated so much with people is because it’s a universe in which there It’s cohesion: a lot of these superhero universes have different composers, directors and approaches, so nothing connects musically, but here everything does.
He continued: “Every choice in the soundtrack is very thoughtful and there are musical clues about things, people, events, situations and characters – they connect from the first to the second film and hopefully the third film. There are secrets in there.”
Pemberton goes on to admit that “there’s pressure to add these details. If you have good basic ingredients you can go many places with them. That’s what was so interesting: trying to find these character themes that are instantly recognizable in two parts.” seconds, and that’s another reason why they’ve all taken off on TikTok because it’s so immediate.
“But I also have to write the ones that I know I can adapt and then find ways to adapt them. For example, how do you turn Miles’ fate theme into something else or how does Spider-Man’s theme give you a different emotion? This puzzle is an exciting part of being a composer, but it’s also satisfying for the viewer when it seems bigger.”
Producers Phil Lord AND Chris Miller We previously talked about this movie saying, “It will be a very satisfying conclusion. It will deepen even more emotionally the relationships between Miles, Gwen, Peter B., [and Miles’] parents.”
Lord He went on to talk about the second film’s cliffhanger ending, in which Miles is stuck in the wrong universe while facing a variant of himself, which appears to be the Prowler.
He said: “The most interesting thing for Miles [in Beyond the Spider-Verse] is it like facing a sense of betrayal and turning it into something affirming?
“And I think the thing we try to do with these films is portray goodness and show how the love that the characters in the film have for Miles translates into his growth and success.”
Beyond the Spider-Verse it was originally supposed to be released in 2024 before its release date was removed from the schedule. There is no word on when it will be released at the moment.
