Prime Video is producing a new drama thriller series titled Countdown, and Supernatural star Jensen Ackles is assigned to host the series.
The series is developed by A Chicago veteran Derek Haas and received a 13-episode order, which is apparently rare for the streaming service.
Countdown begins following a suspicious murder in broad daylight, leading to LAPD Officer Mark Meachum (Ackles) being recruited to join a secret task force of undercover officers from all branches of law enforcement to to investigate.
“But when the truth about a far more sinister conspiracy comes into focus, the team must overcome their conflicting personal agendas to unite and save a city of millions.”
Amazon MGM Studios head of television Vernon Sanders said in a statement: “We are incredibly excited to be back in business with Derek Haas. He has an undeniable ability to captivate audiences with emotional storytelling and heart.
“We can’t wait for global Prime Video customers to experience this dynamic series, led by our talented star, Jensen Ackles.”
Haas said: “I am thrilled to be working again with Jen Salke and Vernon Sanders and all the excellent people they have brought together at Prime Video. I love making shows that keep you on the edge of your seat with non-stop action, drama, surprises and suspense, and I can’t wait to work with Jensen and for everyone to see Countdown.”
Ackles said: “I had an incredible experience working with the Prime Video team on The Boys and I’m thrilled to be able to continue that relationship on Countdown. I simply can’t wait to collaborate with Derek and the rest of our Countdown family to bring this story to life.”
Sanders and the management of Amazon MGM Studios Jen Salke both had worked with Haas for years while they were executives at NBC and he continued to work A Chicago.
