American gladiators will make another return thanks to a new reboot ordered by Amazon Prime Video.
I enjoyed watching the original American gladiators series in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It was very funny! The show was rebooted by NBC in 2008 with Hulk Hogan AND Laila Ali hosting, but it didn’t have the same impact as the original series. It only ran for two seasons.
The show involves amateur athletes competing with each other as well as the show’s gladiators through a series of challenges including a tough obstacle course.
The new series will feature classic competitions like Gauntlet, Hang Tough and, of course, The Eliminator.
The series is produced by MGM Alternative and Amazon MGM Studios for Prime Video in association with Flor-Jon Films, the production company of American gladiators co-creator Johnny C. Ferraro.

“We look forward to delighting our global Prime Video customers with both reimagined and nostalgic elements that celebrate the best of the original series.”
Barry Poznick, the general manager of MGM Alternative, Evolution Media and Big Fish Entertainment added: “Doing a casting search across the country is exciting for us and for the fans. Our goal is to find a true cross-section of America’s toughest and toughest competitors. This is sports entertainment at its best.”
Over the years there have been some attempts at revival American gladiators from the 2008 series. American ninja warrior manufacturer A. Smith & Co. was developing a new version of the format in 2014, which never came to fruition.
Seth Rogen AND Evan Goldberg I even tried to reboot it in 2018, collaborating with MGM, but it didn’t help.
Then there was a moment when a movie was being developed! That project had been developed by the writer Peter Lliff (Patriotic Games AND University blues), but that didn’t come up either.
Casting for the show is currently underway and I’m curious to see how it turns out.
