Sky is developing a high-stakes thriller about a nuclear bomb titled Atomicand is inspired by the non-fiction book Atomic Bazaar by Vanity Fair journalist William Langewiesche.
The story centers on Max and Mohammed, “two unlikely friends – and even less likely heroes – become involved in a cartel’s plot to transport uranium across North Africa. The couple must face an epochal decision: save themselves or risk everything to prevent a nuclear bomb from falling into the wrong hands.
“Pursued by Cassie Elliott (Wiley) – a highly trained CIA agent whose mission is to prevent terrorists from acquiring a nuclear bomb – along with MI6 and a network of traffickers, Max and Mohammed find themselves in the absurd situation of, for once, having to be the good guys.
The series is the protagonist Alfie Allen (game of Thrones) AND Shazad Latif (Star Trek: Discovery, what does love have to do with it). They are united by Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale, Orange is the New Black).
Atomic will be written by Gregory Burke (Rebus) and directed by Sheriff Korver (Temple).Burke said in a statement: “I’m excited to bring the world of Atomic to life with brilliant director Shariff Korver and a wonderful cast.
“It’s a story about the terrifying prospect of a world in which nuclear weapons will be easier than ever to acquire, and about the infinite possibilities that exist in the best and worst of us.”
