Fans were surprised and happy when Hugh Jackman revealed that he would return to the role of Logan/Wolverine in the next team-up film Deadpool and Wolverine.
Apparently, Jackman’s team was also surprised. The actor revealed in a recent interview with Fandango that he’s committed to starring alongside Ryan Reynolds even before speaking to his agent.
Jackman said he thought he was done playing the superhero after his character was killed off in 2017 Logan. However, Reynolds approached him with the idea of bringing Deadpool and Wolverine together, and he couldn’t resist putting the claws back together.
“I was going, I was just driving and literally, just like a bolt of lightning, I knew deep down in my gut that I wanted to make this movie with Ryan. For Deepdool and Wolverine to get back together. I promise you, when I said I was done, I really thought I was done.
He continued:
“But in the back of my head, ever since I saw it Dead pool 1, I thought, ‘Those two characters together.’ I knew it, I knew the fans wanted it since I got my claws in, people were talking about these two. So, that had always been there, but I just knew it.
Jackman recalled the moment he arrived home: “I called Ryan. And I just said, “Let’s do it.” Like, I hadn’t called my agent, nobody. I had to call my agent and say, “Oh, by the way, I just committed to a movie.”
Chief Marvel Kevin Feige he initially disagreed with the idea of Jackman returning as Wolverine and opened up about his exchange with the actor in an interview with Empire.
“I said, ‘Let me give you some advice, Hugh. Don’t come back,” Feige said. “’You had the best ending ever with Logan. It’s not something we should undo.’”
Despite initial hesitation, Feige fortunately changed his mind and liked the idea that Jackman would not play the version of Logan and Wolverine from the previous X-Men films.
Only two months left until we see the movie we’ve all been waiting for! Deadpool and Wolverine will be released in theaters on July 26.
