A film about the making of ROCKY is in development with director Peter Farrelly

Rocky is one of the most iconic films of all time and the making of Sylvester StalloneThe film will now be made into a feature film. The film will be directed by Peter Farrelly (Green Book, Dumb and Dumber) from a screenplay written by Pietro Giocolo.

The film is titled I play Rockyand the story is described as follows: “A struggling actor with a partially paralyzed face and a speech impediment writes a screenplay that a major movie studio wants to buy, but refuses to sell unless he can play the lead.

“Rejecting a life-changing offer of money, he instead works for pennies to make the film with himself in the starring role. The film becomes the biggest box office success of 1976, earning 10 Oscar nominations and winning Best Picture.

The film is set at Warner Bros., and studio head Toby Emmerich said in a statement: “I have been a fan of Peter Farrelly both as a director and as a person since I began working with him on the music for Dumb and dumber.”

He added: “But it was Green book this made me think of Pete for this thought-provoking script. Christian Baha and I feel lucky to have Pete at the helm of this film.

“And like the unknown Stallone protagonist RockyPete will lead a worldwide search to discover another actor who just needs a chance I play Rocky – to show the world what he can do.”

The studio’s Christian Baha added: “When I first read Peter Gamble’s energetic and touching script, I knew it captured something very special. The story of I play Rocky he is as unique as Sylvester Stallone himself, a seeming everyman with an undeniable gift who needs to share it with the world and refuses to take “No” for an answer.

Baha continued: “And like the hero of our film, Baha Productions needed grit and determination as we struggled for years to make this project a reality. We are so fortunate to have collaborated with Toby Emmerich and Peter Farrelly, two legendary talents who not only share but enhance our vision for the film.”

The story behind Stallone’s making of Rocky is incredible, and I’m excited to see that story get the cinematic treatment. As a fan of Rocky and his story behind the scenes, I can’t wait to watch it!

Casting for the biopic is currently underway.
