Jeff Bridges reveals he’s filming scenes for TRON: ARES

When we heard that Disney was going to develop a third Tron movie, I wondered if the filmmakers would bring Jeff Bridges return to the world of Tron.

Well, it looks like Bridges will be back Tron: Ares! The actor himself confirmed the news during an interview on the Film Comment podcast.

The interview was about receiving the 49th Chaplin Award from Film at Lincoln Center, so the actor’s entire cinematic legacy was in question.

When Tron entered the conversation, Bridges left the following details: “I will be leaving this Saturday to play a part in the third chapter of the ‘Tron’ story.”

He continued: “I’m excited about this. … Jared Leto he’s the protagonist of this third film and I’m really looking forward to working with him… to see what the technological developments will be.”

It will be interesting to see what Bridges’ involvement will be with Tron: Ares and how his character Kevin Flynn will fit into the story and how important a role he will play.

What would you like to see from the story regarding Kevin Flynn and how should his character be used?

The sequel is directed by Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Kon Tiki), and the film follows a highly sophisticated program, Ares, “which is sent from the digital world to the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humanity’s first encounter with AI beings.”

The film is also the protagonist Cameron Monaghan (Star Wars Jedi), Evan Peters (WandaVision), Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith (Without remorse), Greta Lee, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo CastroAND Gillian Anderson.

Rønning previously spoke about the film, saying: “I’m thrilled to be part of the TRON franchise and to bring this new film to fans around the world.

“TRON: Ares builds on a legacy of cutting-edge design, technology and storytelling. Now more than ever, it feels like the right time to return to the Grid.”

Jesse Wigutow AND Jack Thorne wrote the screenplay. The film arrives in theaters on October 10, 2025.
