A collection of new photos for Lucasfilm’s next film has surfaced Star Wars series, The Acolytewhich showcases the characters that fill the story.
The story is described as “a mystery thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of dark secrets and emerging dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” The High Republic is set 100 years before the start of the Skywalker Saga.
In The Acolyte, “An investigation into a shocking crime wave pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Stenberg). As new clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal that all is not what it seems….”
When previously talking about the series, showrunner Leslye Promontory he promised The Acolyte it will be “full” of nods to practically every era Star Wars.
He said: “It’s a show full of everything I wanted to explore: I wanted the EU [Expanded Universe] stuff in there, references to the original trilogy, The Phantom Menace, the Disney sequels… it’s absolutely packed. Because you never know, you might never have the chance again.”
Headland went on to say that they also wanted to honor George Lucas’ camera movements, saying, “[Cinematographer] Chris [Teague] and I talked a lot about honoring George Lucas’ camera movements.
He added: “I would say the original trilogy became our touchstone for how to create the world, whereas Episode I of the show is a little more thematic.”
It was also previously shared that the lightsaber battle happened The Phantom Menace it served as inspiration for the kind of battles we’ll see The Acolyte.
One of the stars of the series, Manny Giacintohe previously teased: “If you loved that sequence with Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Darth Maul. I think you’ll like this show.”
In another interview with the star of the series Dafne Keen said thisThe Acolyte hopes to surpass Darth Maul’s lightsaber battle.
He said: “Yes, it was a very frequent conversation we had. It was so much – we want to top the Darth Maul fight, the most iconic fight, I think, in the Star Wars cinematic universe”.
He continued: “It’s an amazing fight and we were all so excited about the saber fights. There’s such skill and craft to this that it feels so OG Star Wars and it’s so impressive when you see it as a viewer.
The cast includes Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas SuotamoAND Carrie-Anne Moss.
The Acolyte will have eight episodes total, with Headland, Garcia Lopez and Kogonada directing the series’ episodes. The premiere is scheduled for June 4, 2024 on Disney+.
