Callum Turner will star in Apple TV’s adaptation of William Gibson’s novel Neuromancer. It was initially reported that Robert Pattinson would star in the series, but that’s obviously no longer the case.
The 10-episode drama series follows “a damaged, high-ranking super-hacker named Case (Turner) who is thrown into a web of digital espionage and high-stakes crime with his partner Molly, a razor-girl assassin with mirror eyes, with the aim of pulling off a heist on a corporate dynasty with unspeakable secrets.
Turner previously worked with Apple TV+ on the World War II series Masters of the Air. This new series project looks like another great gig for the actor.
According to the character description, “Case is a skilled hacker with a troubled past. His experience in the technological underground makes him the perfect candidate for the mission, but his journey is filled with danger and uncertainty.”
Case will be joined by Molly: “A woman between the ages of 30 and 45, Molly is a formidable mercenary known for her ruthlessness and fighting skills. Operating in the physical realm, she serves as Case’s protector and ally in his mission.”
Then there’s Armitage: “A male aged between 45 and 55, Armitage is the enigmatic figure who hires Case for the mission. Ex-military and mysterious in nature, he brings a sense of gravity and intrigue to the story.”
The description of the first book reads: “The Matrix is a world within a world, a global hallucination-consensus, the representation of every byte of data in cyberspace…
“Henry Dorsett Case was the most cunning data thief in the industry, until vengeful former employees crippled his nervous system. But now a new and very mysterious employer recruits him for one last chance.
“The target: an incredibly powerful artificial intelligence orbiting the Earth serving the sinister Tessier-Ashpool business clan. With a dead man brandishing a rifle and Molly, a mirror-eyed street samurai, watching his back, Case embarks on an adventure that raises the stakes for an entire genre of fiction.”
The series won the Hugo, Nebula, and Philip K. Dick Awards and offers the “first fully realized glimpse of humanity’s digital future—a shocking vision that challenged our assumptions about technology and ourselves, reinventing how we we speak and think, and it has forever altered the landscape of our imagination.
Graham Roland will serve as writer, producer and showrunner of Neuromancer. He is best known for his work on the hit series Lost and Amazon Studios’ Jack Ryan series. Gibson will also serve as executive producer and one of the episodes will be directed by JD Dillardwho recently directed the war drama Devotion with Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Country) AND Glen Powell (Top Gun: nonconformist).
