While director Shawn Levy is working hard to bring us Deadpool 3 He also has other projects fans are curious about this summer, including the sequel to his 2011 family sci-fi action film, Real steel.
The film is set in the near future, when robot boxing is a top sport. A struggling ex-boxer, Charlie (Hugh Jackman), reluctantly teams up with his estranged son, Max (Dakota Goyo), to build and train a championship robot for one last attempt at redemption.
The film was a critical and box office success, and fans have been eager to revisit that world since the first film’s release. There has been talk of a sequel over the years, but two years ago it was announced that Disney+ was developing a sequel Real steel series. We’ve had very few updates since then, but each one seemed positive. Slow but steady progress.
Now, Levy has offered a further update that pushes the project in the right direction. While speaking with Collider recently at CinemaCon, the director was asked if the Real Steel series already had a writing team.
Levy confirmed with a laugh, “Man, do I have to lie? Yes, that’s the answer.” He reassured fans that not only are there writers on board, but that the spirit of Real Steel remains alive and well in its original cast.
It’s just a little information, but we’ll take it! A writing team and director in attendance is a great sign that things are developing and we can expect to hear more soon.
You can’t wait for the Real steel series?
