The first omen in the end it turned out to be a surprisingly good horror film! I didn’t expect it to be as beautiful or as scary as it was.
The film tells a solid story that sets the events of the classic 1976 film The omenand on that journey some really scary and dark things happen, which is what you would expect from a movie about the coming of the Antichrist!
One of these scenes affected the crew members so much that some of them walked off the set in horror while they were filming it.
The scene takes place towards the end of the film, as Nell Tiger Free Margaret Daino approaches a church and lets go, as if a demon has taken possession of her and begins to writhe in both pain and ecstasy. I can definitely understand why some people would find this uncomfortable.
Free spoke about this scene saying, “There’s something so satisfying about releasing parts of yourself that, from society’s perspective, you should keep hidden. It’s this real animalistic rage that I tapped into and let out, so that was really cool.”
I remember turning to my friend who I had seen the movie with saying to him during this scene, “It must be really hard to be an actor sometimes.” It’s a pretty wild scene!
She continued, “It was really satisfying to see a couple of people walk off the set because they were so uncomfortable. People wouldn’t look me in the eye afterward because they thought I was evil. So I loved the experience. It felt real and like we had done something beautiful.”
The film tells the story of the young woman who gives birth to the Antichrist and the Devil’s son. “When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the Church, she encounters a darkness that leads her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that she hopes will bring forth evil incarnate.”
If you like horror movies and are a fan of the original film, The first omen is a film worth seeing on the big screen. It offers a certain wild madness.
The first omen stars Nell Tiger free (Servant), Tawfeek Barhom (Mary Magdalene), Sonia Braga (Spider Woman’s Kiss), Ralph Ineson (The Witch, Onyx the Fortuitous), AND Bill Nighy (Life).
The film is directed by Arkasha Stevensonbased on characters created by David Seltzer (The omen), with a history of Ben Jacoby (To bleed) and a screenplay written by Tim Smith AND Arkasha Stevenson AND Keith Thomas (Fire starter).
