Alan Ritchson explains how Jack Reacher is America’s James Bond and makes some good points

It was a lot of fun to watch Alan Ritchson plays Jack Reacher on Prime Video Reacher series. She fits the role so well, and this is such a great show!

We are on the second season of the series so far and season 3 is currently in production. During an interview with EW, Ritchson spoke about his character and explained how Reacher is the American version of James Bond. He even thinks the character is better than Bond!

He said: “It’s funny, I feel like Reacher is the American James Bond. And I’ve never had so much fun playing a character. I love those over-the-top, over-the-top action thrillers and spy movies and clever heists and ahead of the public.

He continued: “It’s really great, but I feel like Bond, for me personally – people are going to hate me for saying this – I love Bond, but I feel like it’s all a bit misogynistic and predictable at this point.”

Ritchson adds that he will always love the way Bond “can play chess in 4D and stand before us and save the world,” but thinks the character is a little outdated now. He explained: “Reacher, to me, is like American Bond, and I think it’s an interesting way to do it where he’s a little less deliberately interesting.”

Ritchson goes on to say, “He doesn’t know how clever he is. I don’t think we can have characters in this day and age who are in on the joke. Either they know they’re funny, they know they’re funny.” intelligent, they know they are very strong, capable or invincible – I feel like that reduces the stakes of the stories, and we’ve seen too many movies, we’re too savvy as an audience to be entertained by that.

He went on to say that he would rather see more relatable, flawed characters rather than the ultimate perfect spy: “What we want is, when it’s life and death on the line, characters who aren’t so sure they’re going to make it, but maybe they get it just by the skin of your teeth.

The actor shared, “And this feels more human to me. This is more my story. We’re all just trying to figure it out and want to escape somewhere where we trust someone to do it. And maybe it can even be done superhero style, but we still want to know that there’s a humanity in the people we’re running from.”

He laughed and added, “That’s me, at least personally. A lot of people can and will disagree with that.”

I think Ritchson made some good points here, but what do you think of his comments!?
