During Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation, the producer was announced Jason Blum and Blumhouse will reboot the Blair witch horror franchise.
There are no other details on this project, but I’m intrigued. I’m curious to see what Blumhouse might have planned for the next episode Blair witch movie. Blum will collaborate with the producer Roy Lee on the project.
I remember seeing the original movie in theaters in 1999. I liked that movie, but I especially liked the marketing behind it! That marketing is what made the film such a huge success, and it’s something that can’t be recreated for the franchise.
Almost a year ago it was reported that another Blair Witch Project was in development with the director Oliver Park (The Offer) and Haxan Films, the production company behind the original Blair Witch Project. That project also had both Daniele Myrick AND Eduardo Sanchezthe writers and directors of the original film took on the role of producers.
I assume the project is no longer being made, but maybe that’s part of what’s happening at Lionsgate and Blumhouse? I have no idea.
I think there’s a fantastic and unique way to handle this franchise, and maybe Blumhouse will be able to figure it out. I’ve always been interested in the Blair Witch lore, which centers on Elly Kedward, who terrorized the town of Blair, now Burkittsville, during the late 1700s and was executed for her crimes.
The following year his accusers and many of the town’s children disappeared without explanation and as a result the town was abandoned.
What would you like to see from a new one Blair witch movie?
