Warner Bros. is moving forward with another one Matrix film, writer and director Drew Goddard is driving development.
Goddard is best known for his work on The Martian, The cabin in the woodsAND Bad times at El Royale, and will write and direct the film The Matrix. The sci-fi franchise’s original co-writer and co-director, Lana Wachowski, will serve as executive producer.
Goddard said in a statement: “It is not hyperbole to say that the Matrix films changed both cinema and my life. Lana and Lilly’s exquisite artistry inspires me daily and I am beyond grateful for the chance to tell stories in their world.

Motion Pictures President of Production added, “Drew came to Warner Bros. with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the world of The Matrix, honoring what Lana and Lilly started over 25 years ago. does”. and offering a unique perspective based on his love for the series and the characters.
He continued: “The entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery is thrilled to have Drew make this new Matrix film, adding his vision to the cinematic canon that the Wachowskis have spent a quarter-century building here at the studio.”
The project is in early development and it is not known whether Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne-Mossor any of the other original cast members will return.
The last film in the series, The Resurrections of the Matrixit had some interesting moments and tried different and unique things, but ultimately it fell flat for audiences and fans.
It will be interesting to see what Goddard has planned for this next chapter in the franchise. I hope he comes up with something really interesting! I would love to see a new Matrix film reach the bar set by the original film, but it won’t be easy.
It was previously reported that Goddard was being considered by Marvel Studios for Spider-Man 4, but it looks like that won’t happen for now.
