During an interview with EW, Keen offered some details about the character he plays, saying, “Well, I’m very excited that we know his name now, because it’s been secret for so long. And I’m very happy to say that she is an alien, a Padawan and a Jedi.
Keen continues, “He’s a mixed species: part Theelin, part human. She’s very nice and I have some really cool lightsaber fights. I really love her. She’s a great character and it was really fun to play. I’m very excited that the trailer is out. I was buzzing for days.
The actress then talks about Jecki’ Lon’s relationship with Jedi Master Sol: “I would say she’s a very devoted Padawan. She’s definitely in awe of her in a very sweet way. She has an absolute vision of him in a way that I think they have a very sweet relationship with, but she’s much more aware of the difference in authority than, say, Obi-Wan and Anakin. She’s very like, ‘No, he’s the master and I’m the Padawan and he’s perfect. And everything he says, I have to follow to the letter.’”
He also talked about how the character’s design and the makeup he had to wear influenced how he played the character. Keen said: “She completely changed the way I moved. She also completely changed the character. When I read the script, I had an idea of what I was going to do, and she completely changed it in a way that I think is a lot more interesting than I thought.
She continued: “I thought she was going to be really methodical and cold and calculated, and then as soon as I put that makeup on, she became much more methodical and perfectionistic and very successful, but with much more ingenuity and a curiosity and a real love for the job that is being a Jedi.
Keen continued to share, “Which was really interesting because I’m someone who wiggles my eyebrows a lot and not having eyebrows completely changes the expression on your face. And not having eyebrows gave me a softer look, which in a way completely changed the character.

It is also the time of an institution, and it is a time in which the conceptions around the Force are very rigid. And I think what we’re trying to explore within our show is when an institution has a singular conception of how power can be used… we try to provide many different perspectives and answers to that question. The idea is to honor the Star Wars ethos and ideas about the Force and also challenge them, hopefully in a harmonious way.”
