George A. Romerothe horror film masterpiece Dawn of the Dead will return to theaters for the film’s 45th anniversary. You know, I’ve never seen this movie on the big screen, so this is the perfect opportunity to make up for it!
One of the screenings will be held at Monroeville Mall in Pennsylvania, where the movie was filmed!
The press release reads: “The North American gala premiere of Dawn of the Dead took place on April 12, 1979 at the Gateway Theater in downtown Pittsburgh. The film began its official rollout in U.S. theaters the following day, then spread across the country. To honor this special milestone, New Amsterdam Entertainment Inc.® is making the film once again available in theaters and drive-ins for screenings from coast to coast starting April 12, 2024 through the end of May!
“With over 90 screens across North America, independent theaters and drive-ins have joined the celebration. While some will only host one exclusive screening event, others will have multiple screenings throughout April and May.
“With the special assistance of the United Drive-In Theater Owners Association, for the first time in decades, many fans will be able to watch ‘Dawn of the Dead’ under the stars at several ozonizers such as the classic Midway Drive-In in Sterling, IL and at a special Exhumed Films event at the famous Mahoning Drive-In in Lehighton, Pennsylvania!
“The mighty Alamo Drafthouse will satisfy thousands of audience requests by releasing it in 34 of its theaters across the country and die-hard fans will finally be able to watch the film again in its premiere city of Pittsburgh, this time at the Row House. Theater! The film will be shown across North America at historic venues, including places like the Colonial Theater in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, where the original version of The Blob was filmed in 1958!
“Meanwhile, the Music Box Theater in Chicago will present special screenings of singles from both the 2-D and 3-D editions later in May! Stereoscopic fans will also be able to see it in 3-D at the Galleria Mall in St. Louis, MO, where hopefully they won’t have to hunker down to survive a zombie apocalypse! St. Louis isn’t the only city that’s returning the film to its original setting; Thanks to a special agreement, Cinemark Theaters will exclusively present Dawn of the Dead for one night only on Friday, April 12… at MONROEVILLE MALL!”
