Chris Hemsworth recently spoke about the director George Millerit’s the next movie Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. It notably offers some additional insight into his villainous character Dementus and some of the wildly crazy stunts he found himself pulling during filming. Speaking about how evil his character is, the actor shared with Empire:
“He is a truly horrible individual. Throughout the movie we kept thinking, ‘This is evil, but what is the intention behind this?’ It’s not just sadistic madness. There’s a real purpose, the wheels are turning, he’s plotting and planning and he’s ten steps ahead of everyone else.
It is explained that Dementus even imagines himself as a sort of father figure to Furiosa, by whom he is played Anya Taylor-Gioia. He says:
“I think that’s how he sees himself. I think in his eyes there is a paternal quality and nature to the relationship. [Furiosa] I’m sure, until his death they would argue the exact opposite.
As for the stunt work Hemsworth found himself doing, he shared:
“The chariot is the wildest ride I’ve ever ridden and I loved every second of it. I mean, at one point I’m hanging from a crane and being loaded into a monster truck, and then in the monster truck someone unhooks me from a harness and the truck spins away in exhaustion. How this world came from one of the kindest individuals, I will never know…”
Yep, that sounds like a damn fun blast! The story takes place over the course of 15 years and leads directly to the events of Mad Max: Road Fury.
In the film, “As the world fell apart, young Furiosa is kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a large horde of bikers led by Warlord Dementus. Traveling through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe As the two Tyrants battle for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she marshals the means to find her way home.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga hits theaters May 24, 2024. It can’t come soon enough!
