Anthony Hopkins will be the protagonist of a new reinterpretation of H. G. Wells’classic novel The Island of Doctor Moreau. But the film will have a different title, Eyes in the treesand was developed by the director Timothy Woodward Jr.
In this film, Hopkins plays “a geneticist who has been isolated after the government stopped funding his research following the violent outbreak of one of his test subjects. Next, two renowned filmmakers and their crew embark on a journey of discovery, only to find that their excursion has turned into a fight for survival not only for themselves, but for the entire human race.”
The original science fiction story was published in 1896 and has always been a crazy story that I enjoyed. It inspired several films over the years and was adapted in 1932 Island of Lost Souls and 1977 with The Island of Doctor Moreau hero Burt Lancaster. The most recent adaptation was in 1996 starring Marlon Brando AND Val Kilmer, which went through an insanely challenging production. They should make a movie or series about the making of that movie!
The screenplay by Eyes in the trees was written by B. Harrison Smith (Where are the scary things) AND Mike Manning (Son of the South).
This should be another solid role for Hopkins to take on. I hope this movie turns out well!
