BLACK WIDOW Actor Ray Winstone Says Filming Film Was ‘Soul Destroying’ & Wanted It Recast

The film Black Widow was an interesting chapter in the MCU, going back in time and completing Natasha Romanoff’s storyline (Scarlett Johansson), answering questions about his origin, his family, and a time period we knew little about before that film. It was action-packed and introduced us to a lot of great new characters, some of which we’ll see again in the film. Lightningwhich will be released in theaters next summer.

But it wasn’t the best experience for at least one of the film’s actors, Ray Winstone, who played the evil character Dreykov. The actor had quite fun shooting the film. But the same can’t be said about returning for Marvel reshoots.

Winstone recently told the Radio Times:

“It was fine until you had to do the reshoots. Then you find out that some producers have gone down and your performance is too much, it’s too strong… that’s how Marvel works. It can be soul-destroying because you feel like you’re doing a great job.

While Winstone reluctantly participated in the Black Widow during filming, it appears the main reason he did this was contractual.

“I actually said, ‘You should rephrase it because that was it for me.’ And you end up doing it again because you’re forced to. Otherwise you end up in court. It’s like getting kicked in the balls.”

The actor made it and it doesn’t look like he will sign up for another project like this in the future. It’s a shame he had a bad experience, but at least he got paid that kind of money by Marvel.
