It is explained that the writers’ room for the third season is not yet open, but “the showrunners are working on the initial outline of the story”. Season 3 is expected to The Rings of Power will be filmed at Shepperton Studios in the UK, in a new production facility.

According to Amazon, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (launching fall 2022) was the most-watched Amazon Original program in every region and debuted at #1 on the Nielsen streaming charts.

Amazon MGM Studios TV chief Vernon Sanders said in a statement: “We began this extraordinary journey with JD and Patrick more than five and a half years ago and have never looked back. We continue to be amazed by the scale and scope of their vision and the enormous global success achieved by The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in his record-breaking first season. We can’t wait for Prime Video customers to experience the epic adventure and high-stakes drama that JD and Patrick continue to build throughout season two and beyond. Naturally, the studio is thrilled to extend our global agreement with these brilliant creative minds as they continue to advance their passion for great storytelling.”

The second season of the series is currently in production and it was previously explained that it is accelerating the pace of the narrative and the scope of the battle scenes. Producer Vernon Sanders shared, “Now we can enjoy watching the story develop as Sauron is revealed. And I think audiences can expect a show that, while it feels true to itself, feels like the stakes are getting higher and higher and now that the rings are on the line, seeing what they can do and seeing how the various factions do in the world. with those implications. I think it’s going to be really compelling.”

Speaking about the pace and scope of the upcoming season, he continued, “We’ve never done anything like this. So the whole production model, how to produce a show like this, working at scale, were all things we had to learn for the first time in the process of making the show. We will be faster. We’ll be able to put more money into the screen, just in terms of the scale and scope of what we’re doing now that we know how to do it. And I also think that the pace of our story will pick up partly because the story demands that, now that everyone’s established, the stakes are established, we’ll see some characters in some lands go to war.

He also teased even bigger battle sequences, saying, “Yes, I can say you’ll see bigger battles in Season 2, including some iconic moments from the appendices and books.” It will be interesting to see those moments unfold!

Director of the second season Charlotte Brandström also talked about the series and said it will continue to lean into more innovative themes and give fans a “grittier” and “edgier” take on Middle-earth than what we saw in the first season. Brändström said: “What I know and what I can say for sure is that it will be darker, edgier and more character-driven. I still think we’ll have some very interesting episodes coming up. I watched them all over Christmas, just the cuts . I think it’s going to be a great season. We tried to make it grittier, a little dirtier, I guess. And not in the image, but to make it as authentic as possible. We have some really surprising twists as well.”

The series is based on the appendices of JRR Tolkien’S The Lord of the Rings books, and the story is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth, “thousands of years before the events of JRR Tolkien’s tale.” The Hobbit AND The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back in time to a time when great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the thinnest thread, and the greatest villain ever came out of Tolkien’s pen and threatened to die. cover the whole world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows a cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they face the much-feared reemergence of evil in Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elven capital of Lindon, to the incredible island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will leave legacies that will live on long as they are gone.”
