The X-FILES creator Chris Carter talks about the continuing adventures of Mulder and Scully

The X-Files it’s one of those iconic shows that fans keep talking about and wanting more of. It would actually be very relevant today because of how some of the conspiracy theories presented in the original series turned out to be true in real life. With everything that’s happening now, with the way the government is handling things, admitting that there are things out there that are beyond their understanding, I’d be curious to see how Mulder and Scully would respond to that.

The question is: will we ever see it David Duchovny AND Gillian Anderson reprise their roles for the continuation of the series? I think it’s possible, but unlikely. The show’s creator, Chris Carter, even seems uninterested in doing more with the franchise unless the original stars are involved. During an interview with The Wrap, Carter was asked if he was interested in Mulder and Scully’s continuing adventures, and he said:

“Oh, if David and Gillian wanted to do it again. Yes, probably, then I would be inspired.”

While Duchovny has said he’s always ready for more The X-Files, Anderson has said multiple times that he’s had enough. But she said she would be willing to return under the right circumstances:

“It just seems like such an old idea. I did it, I did it for so many years, and it ended on a really unfortunate note,” referring to Scully’s pregnancy reveal. “To start having that conversation [about another season] there would need to be a whole new group of writers and the baton would have to be passed for it to feel new and progressive. So yes, he is very much in the past.

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is currently developing a X files series all its own. There are no details to share about this, but Carter has given his blessing to the project. Whatever Coogler has planned, I hope he does something great with the franchise, something that fans can appreciate and support.
