Ti West embark on a journey with which to develop a trilogy of horror films X, Pearland the upcoming film MaXXXine. Well, there’s a chance it could go beyond a trilogy. The director has teased that he has an idea for a fourth film, but he’s not yet sure if it’s a project he’ll pursue or not.
During an interview on the YouTube channel What’s Under the Bed, West said he has an idea that could potentially expand the X-Universe further, but also notes, “Maybe. I don’t know.” He said:
“There’s this weird idea I have that’s kind of… if you explained it, it would make sense. But we’ll see what happens. Let’s finish this movie first, see if people like it. Then we’ll go from there.”
The first two films were quite successful, so it’s safe to say MaXXXine will be a moderate success at the box office. When it comes to MaXXXine, West says that “It’s coming. I’m almost done editing it. So far, so good.”
The story follows Maxine, “after the events of X, as the only survivor who continues her journey to fame by deciding to become an actress. It was also revealed that the film will be billed as a “whodunnit slasher”.
Franchise star My Gothic previously offered some additional insights into the film, saying he sees MaXXXine like a superhero movie. She explained, “I understand MaXXXine like a superhero movie: that’s how I read the script. Maxine, as a character, has come a long way. She’s a survivor, she’s been through a lot. When we meet her again, in this new world that she finds herself in, she’s really fought for everything that she has, and she’s not about to give up. She will fight for what she has. She’s tough. There is a strength in her. She and she is a truly proactive, determined and focused woman. She goes after what she wants and she really won’t take no for an answer.”
Speaking previously about the project, Goth praised it, saying: “It’s my favorite script of the three. Everything is bigger. The world is bigger, the stakes are bigger. It will provide the greatest cinematic experience of all three.”
West added: “If X it’s a movie where they try to make independent porn, and if Pearl talks about her desire to be in the “movie business”, as difficult as that may be, then MaXXXine it’s certainly a different perspective on it. The world of direct-to-video plays a role.”
Goth will be joined in the film by Hasley, Lily Collins (Emily in Paris), Kevin Bacon (City on a hill), Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Michelle Monaghan (Nanny), Moses Sumney (The idol), Bobby Cannavale (The observer), AND Giancarlo Esposito (Better call Saulo).
