SUPERMAN: LEGACY star Rachel Brosnahan talks about what drew her to the role of Lois Lane

Emmy winning actress Rachel Brosnahan she is known for her starring role in the series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a character he elevated to another level with comedy and heart. She will now bring that talent to Lois Lane’s iconic directorial role James Gunnthe DC function of, Superman: Legacy.

When the actress appeared on the SAG Awards red carpet, Variety asked Brosnahan what attracted her to the role, and she responded:

“I grew up watching the Donner Superman movies with Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder. I’ve always loved Lois Lane. She’s smart and ambitious and can be funny, and she knows she’s the smartest person in the room most of the time. I’ve always loved this character, so when the opportunity presented itself, I was a huge James Gunn fan from afar.”

Variety also asked about the table read and the viral cast photo Gunn recently shared, and Brosnahan confirmed that actual filming will begin next week, saying:

“Yes, we’ll start shooting next week… We’ve moved around a bit, but some pieces will be shot next week and then some the week after that.”

Superman: Legacy will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

James Gunn also previously revealed that the film will skip Superman’s origin story and dive straight into the meat of his story.

Superman: Legacy stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific, Skyler Gisondo like Jimmy Olsen, and María Gabriela de Faría in the role of Angela Spica, aka The Engineer.

Superman: Legacy will launch the cinematic portion of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. The theatrical release is scheduled for July 11, 2025.
