Jenna Ortega Talks Playing Lydia Deetz’s Daughter and Their Important Dynamic in BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE

Jenna Ortega he moved on from his dark and delicious role as the protagonist of The Addams Family series Wednesdayto another, playing the daughter of Winona RyderLydia Deetz in the sequel to the 1988 cult classic, Cockroach juice. I join Ortega and Ryder Beetle juice Beetle juice I am Michael Keaton like Beetlejuice, Catherine O’Harawho returns as Delia Deetz, and newcomers Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, Arturo ContiAND Burn Gorman.

When asked if she would play the role of Astrid Deetz, Ortega told Vanity Fair:

“I don’t know how much I’m allowed to say, but I’m Lydia Deetz’s daughter, so I’ll reveal it. She is strange, but in a different way and not in the way you would think, I would say. The relationship between Lydia (Ryder) and Astrid, my character, is very important. And it’s also very strange because you have to catch up and piece together what’s happened in Lydia’s life since then, which is nice, I think, for anyone who loves her character and is excited to see her again.

Ortega added that they bring the Gothic aesthetic of Cockroach juice franchise for younger audiences in 2024 is part of the reason he was “excited that they were bringing it back.”

“I feel like movie studios nowadays, obviously, want people to sit down and you have to do reboots or sequels or things like that to get people interested, but bringing back ‘Beetlejuice’ – of all stories – is so good because people need to revisit weird, strange, off-putting stories again. We need to introduce the younger generation who’s always on their phones to new artistic and creative ideas. The weirder you get, the more people you’ll get to see it, I think it probably will a lot for cinema in general.

The original Cockroach juice has remained a fan favorite, and with the popularity of Burton’s other projects such as Wednesday AND The nightmare before Christmas, Ortega is right. Weird really has a staying power and charm that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

Beetle juice Beetle juice will be released in theaters on September 6th.
