Michael Keaton Says BEETLEJUICE 2 Is ‘Great Fun’ and Talks About Making the Film Virtually Instead of CGI

Michael Keaton is back in one of his most iconic roles, reprising the title character in the decades-anticipated sequel, Beetle juice Beetle juicefrom the returning director Tim Burton. In a recent interview, Keaton spoke about the possibility of returning to play Beetlejuice and that he decided early on with Burton that he wanted to avoid relying too heavily on CGI.

Keaton told People:

“The one thing that he and I decided early, early, right from the beginning, if we ever did this again, I was absolutely not interested in doing anything where there was too much technology. It had to look handmade.

He continued:

“What made it fun was watching someone in the corner holding something in your hand, looking at everyone in the narrow room of your head and saying, ‘Those are people down there, running these things, trying to get it right.’ When you get to do it again after years of sitting in front of a giant screen, pretending someone is in front of you, it’s just enormous fun.

Over the years, Keaton revealed that he and Burton had talked about making a sequel to the film, saying, “We thought, ‘You’ve got to do this right. Otherwise just don’t do it. Let’s get on with our lives and do other things.’ So I was hesitant and cautious, and he’s probably been just as hesitant and cautious all these years. Once we got there, I said, “Okay, let’s just do it.” Let’s just see if we can do it, if we can do it.’”

Beetle juice Beetle juice will premiere on September 6th and will have Winona Ryder also reprising the role of Lydia Deetz Catherine O’Harareturns as Delia Deetz. It’s also in the cast Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, Arturo ContiAND Burn Gorman.
