Ethan Hawke, Daniel Radcliffe and Jessica Biel in the cast of BATSO about the pioneers who climbed El Capitan

Ethan Hawke (Training day), Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter franchising) e Jessica Biel (Sinner) will be the protagonists of a new exciting film entitled Batso. The film will tell the true story of a trio of pioneering climbers who took the hardest route to the iconic El Capitan peak in Yosemite National Park in the 1970s.

The film’s synopsis reads: “In 1970, ‘The Wall of Early Morning Light’ was an unthinkable climb. For climbing legends Warren ‘Batso’ Harding and Dean Caldwell, it presented an almost impossible physical and mental challenge. For the iconoclastic Batso, he also offered one last chance to attack naysayers who thought he was too old, too out of touch and too crazy. For newbie Dean, it was a way to see beyond his 9-to-5 existence and unlock the extraordinary potential of the human spirit.

It explains: “What started as an almost farcical exercise became one of the greatest underdog stories in the history of the sport. The estimated 10-day climb turned into a 28-day marathon of grit and determination that caused a media sensation.

It looks like it’s going to be a great, intense movie! Hawke will play the role of Warren “Batso” Harding, Radcliffe will play Dean Caldwell, who were the first climbers to tackle the famous and difficult sheer El Capitan route known as “The Wall of Early Morning Light”. Biel will play Beryl Knauth, “a pioneering climber in her own right and Warren’s romantic partner.”

The Yosemite website states: “The pair were forced to wait out the storms while on the face and extensively drill areas that looked more natural from the ground. They began the climb with 15 days of supplies but it took them 27 to finally reach the summit. The National Park Service organized a rescue for the team when they were halfway there, but Harding and Caldwell famously refused and continued their epic ascent unaided. At the summit they were welcomed by a crowd of media.”

Kyle Marvin (80 for Brady) will direct the film from a screenplay written by Eamon O’Sullivan. Marvin said in a statement: “People who live in the world of professional climbing may seem like they are doing something extreme, but in reality their actions are a mirror of our lives. We all have a Dawn Wall that we are destined to reach or die trying.”

This is such an incredible story and it’s great to see it being made into a movie with this cast!
