Paramount Pictures is moving forward with another high-profile biopic about the popular music group, i Bee GeesAND Ridley Scott he signed on to direct and produce it. They were developing this project a few years ago with Kenneth Branagh committed to directing it, but obviously this went nowhere.
Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King at GK Film is attached to the project. He is the one who prepared the package of the film, and the film is produced by the Sister production company together with Amblin.
It will be a very different type of film project that Scott will be a part of, and I’m sure he will make a fantastic film, written by John Logan (Gladiator, Alien: Covenant). Scott recently wrapped production on the Gladiator sequel, and according to the report, “Early filming stunned executives. He’s known for finding his next projects quickly, and once production wrapped last month, the studio rushed to get the last draft of the Bee Gees movie before finding the next film.
The report goes on to note that Scott “has a long-standing connection with the legendary group dating back to when he was trying to launch his filmmaking career. This connection is with the group’s then longtime manager, Robert Stigwood, the music mogul who had managed the group since the 1960s and played a major role in its revival in the 1970s during the disco era, while at the same time entering the world of cinema. manufacturing company. Stigwood would cast Scott in the medieval film Castle Accident with the band’s three brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice. Ultimately the film never got made (Scott would direct The Duelist instead), but that desire to tell some sort of story with the group remained, and now, almost 50 years later, Scott has that chance.”
There’s a great documentary about the Bee Gees on HBO Max that you need to check out if you haven’t seen it yet. It is entitled The Bee Gees: How to Mend a Broken Heartand follows the group’s rapid rise as they navigate the complexities of working so intimately alongside family.
Barry Gibb, one of the Bee Gee brothers, participated in that documentary and is also “very involved” in the upcoming film. He will serve as executive producer.
