The highly anticipated sequel is less than a month away, Duna: second part. Director Denis Villeneuvethe cinematic characteristics of Timothée Chalamet returning as Paul Atreides, and Austin Butler joins the cast of the second part of the story as the character Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, nephew of Stellan SkarsgårdBaron Harkonnen. Also includes returning cast Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Josh BrolinAND Stephen McKinley Henderson. New cast members include Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Léa Seydoux like Lady Margot, and Souheila Yacoub like Shishakli.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the second film and now they may have even more reason to ramp up the hype. In a recent interview with Raiders of Lost Souls podcast (via Games Radar), Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan he said he had an early screening of the second film and gave it rave reviews, comparing it to Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. Nolan explained:
“To me, I don’t think it says much to say that if Dune: Part One was Star Wars, this to me is very similar to The Empire Strikes Back, which is my favorite of the Star Wars films. I just think it’s a “Incredibly exciting expansion of all the things introduced in the first.”
Dune director Denis Villeneuve was present during this interview, and was shocked by the comparison, calling it a “huge compliment” in return. That’s a really awesome compliment! It makes you more excited to see Dune 2?
The film will be released in theaters on March 1, 2024. This film will be followed by another film titled Duna: Messiah.
