We recently learned that Paramount Pictures was moving forward with development of Top Gun 3. Tom Cruise is returning to the franchise and will be joined by him Top Gun: nonconformist‘S Miles Teller AND Glen Powell. Joseph Kosinski he will also return to direct, and co-write Mavericks, Ehren Krugerhe is currently writing the screenplay.
Powell, who plays Hangman in the series, recently talked about the news of a third film and teased that some fun things will be announced. During an interview with Variety, the actor stated:
“Some fun things will be announced soon… but they were confidential to me. I’ll talk about them [Maverick director Joseph] Kosinski, Cruise and Jerry [Bruckheimer, producer] all time. Things are happening and they look very exciting. I don’t know when I’ll be back… I’m sure there will be a jet waiting for me in the future.”
When previously there was talk of the possibility of a third party Top Gun movie, Kosinski said, “Is there another story that’s compelling enough that we need to go back? I feel like at the end of the movie, Maverick has some gas in the tank. He’s not settling down.”
It’s going to be really hard to top what they did Top Gun: nonconformistso I hope they come up with another great and compelling story and can at least reach the high bar set by Mavericks.
Top Gun 3 could be Cruise’s next project after he finishes filming Mission: Impossible 8.
