The producer of the film MORTAL KOMBAT 2 previews Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage in a new photo

Mortal Combat 2 film producer Todd Garner recently shared a photo on social media offering a first look teaser Carlo UrbanoIt’s Johnny Cage. The photo only shows Cage’s belt buckle that reads “CAGE”.

Thanks to producer Todd Garner, we now have our first glimpse of the movie star turned protector of Earthrealm. As you can see below, Karl Urban’s character takes cues from his video game counterpart with a large belt buckle that reads “CAGE,” and while it’s not much, it’s sure to make Mortal Kombat fans smile.

Urban is the perfect actor to bring this character to life, and it will be a lot of fun to see how exactly he does it. Urban’s involvement is the only reason I’m interested in this film because the last one made was very disappointing.

Simon McQuoidwho directed the last film, returned to direct the sequel, and the script is where it came from Jeremy Slaterthat he worked on previously Knight of the Moon AND The Umbrella Academy. Previously speaking about the sequel, Slater said:

“I feel like the blood in Mortal Kombat is great and it’s part of what people come for, you always have to find that balance between fun blood and gross gore, right? Because there are times when you rip out someone’s heart or kill the best in the world.” the first movie is Kung Lao’s spinning hat that cuts her in half and it’s the perfect example of funny gore because it’s disgusting, but everyone laughs at the same time, right? You want to make sure that everyone is laughing at the sort of audacity of the gore and not sitting there sort of disgusted by close-ups of dripping guts and visceral and things like that.

“There’s a tongue-in-cheek aspect to Mortal Kombat in terms of the violence and the gore, there’s a little bit of winking at the audience and saying, ‘Yeah, we know it’s ridiculous, but it’s really fun and we’re all okay about the joke.” And when you get the balance right, I think that’s where you get moments like that incredibly bloody first battle that opens the first movie with the soundtrack with Hanzo blowing all the assassins to pieces or you get the gag of the hat or something. So we’re trying to emulate those gory moments from the first one that were really, really successful and got huge reactions from the audience, and how can we give the audience even more this time.”

Mortal Kombat 2 has yet to set a release date. Are you excited to see Urban take on the role of Johnny Cage?
