Ben Stiller (Meet the Parents, The Secret Dreams of Walter Mitty) AND Colin Farrell (In Bruges, The Batman) agreed to star in the film The belly of the beastby the director Andrew Haigh (The OA, All of us strangers).
The story is based on the 1981 non-fiction novel In the belly of the beastwritten by Jack Henry Abbott. The book collects the letters that Abbott wrote to the journalist Norman Mailer while he remained in prison for about a decade. Once granted parole, Abbott struggled to readjust to life outside prison and went on to commit an erroneous crime just weeks after being released.
Stiller will play Mailer in Haigh’s film, while Farrell will play Abbott. Haigh and Alexis Jolly wrote the screenplay, based on a 2017 novel — Jack and Norman: An Inmate Growing Up in the State and the Legacy of Norman Mailer’s “The Executioner’s Song” – written by Girolamo Amante which details the relationship between Mailer and Abbot.
This sounds like a great project for the two talented actors. We’ll let you know more about the casting and release date as the project develops.
