Sam Worthington recently offered a brief update on James Cameron’S Avatars followed. He tells us when production on the sequels will begin and what we can expect from the scope of the sequels. He said People magazine:
“We’ll be back to work on it in a month and that’s great. It’s bigger than you can imagine.
The first two films are already really big and have a fantastic, epic scale. It will be interesting to see how big Cameron can take this thing! The director is currently engaged in post-production Avatara3which Disney will release in 2025.
Cameron also shot all of the live-action scenes for Avatara4 which takes place before a time jump in the story. The rest of the fourth film has yet to be shot, and that’s what they’ll start with when the team gets back to work.
Cameron had already said this in an interview Avatara3 is “on track” for its December 2025 release date. He added:
“We did the [motion capture] capture on three and live-action photography on three as a production mixed with [‘Avatar: The Way of Water’], and we were also part of the fourth movie because all of our young characters are going to make a big leap in the fourth movie. We see them and then we go away for six years and come back. And so the part we come back to is the part we haven’t shot yet. So we’ll start doing that after Three comes out.”
While Cameron said filming on the rest of Avatar 4 won’t happen until Avatar 3 opens, according to Worthington, plans have changed and they’ll get back to work as soon as possible.
Cameron previously offered some insights into this Avatara3 and who the film will focus on, saying, “Lo’ak really emerged as a character that people connected with. So I could find ways to… he’s already the narrator. I’m giving something away here, but that’s okay. I think it might be intriguing for people to think about what’s going to happen. Jake was our voice-over narrator for the first and second films, and we have a different narrator for each of the subsequent films. We see it through the eyes of a different character. The third film is seen through Lo’ak’s eyes.”
Cameron also teased the fire element of the third film and revealed that two new cultures would be introduced, saying: “Fire has a symbolic purpose in the film and there is a culture that specifically revolves around that concept. That’s probably saying too much as we speak.”
Cameron previously talked a bit about the depiction of fire Avatara3, saying: “Showing different cultures than I’ve already shown. Fire will be represented by the “People of the Ash”. I want to reveal the Na’vi from another angle because, for the moment, I have only shown their positive sides. In the early films there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples. In Avatar 3, we will have the opposite.”
The director then revealed that two more new cultures will be introduced in the next film, saying: “You will encounter two completely new cultures in the next film. We met the Omaticaya, we met the Metkayina, and you’ll meet two new cultures in the next movie, and kind of wander a little more freely in the world of Pandora in different places.
