Nostalgia at its fullest: Jim Carrey will helm the live-action reboot of the 1960s cartoon from the director of “Jurassic World”

Jim Carrey is in talks to star in a film adaptation of the story about the famous family from the animated series ‘The Jetsons’. If all arrangements are made, Carrey could play the role of George Jetson, the head of a family living in a futuristic world. Colin Trevorrow has been tapped to direct, for whom this project could be the first feature film after 2022’s ‘Jurassic World: Domination’.

The idea of ​​creating a live-action version of The Jetsons is now being seriously discussed, and Kerry’s name gives the idea special weight. The original animated series aired in 1962-1963 and then, after a revival in the 1980s, was remembered by viewers for a long time and became one of the most popular works of the Hanna-Barbera studio, along with such cult films as the stories of The Flintstones and Scooby-Doo. The film has always been distinguished by its irony of everyday life: home and work, advanced technologies such as flying cars – all this was presented with good-natured humor.

In recent years, Jim Carrey has increasingly agreed to projects that involve character development across multiple films. In response to a journalist’s question last year, the actor noted:

“Before, I didn’t want to star in sequels and participate in cinematic universes – it just didn’t occur to me. I thought, it’s better to try something new. But about six months before the release of the first Sonic movie, I found myself thinking that I would like to work with an image that could be revealed in multiple films, especially if the hero develops from frame to frame,” said Carrey.

The possible choice of the actor for the role of George Jetson is explained by his ability to combine comic talent with gentle irony, necessary for the image of a family man forced to deal with the adversities of a technological future. The action of the future film is expected to take place in the city of Orbit City, where household appliances complicate everyday life no less than the office routine. If Trevorrow remains the director, we can expect scope and spectacular visualization of the futuristic world.

The intention is that if the negotiations are successful, Kerry will appear on the screens surrounded by smart technologies and unusual family situations. At the moment the project is only in the discussion phase, no final decisions have been made yet. Nevertheless, the mere fact that Kerry’s candidacy for the lead role is being discussed is drawing fans’ attention and raising expectations of a fresh take on the classic story.
