COBRA KAI Creator Teases the Return of a Franchise Character to the Series When the Final Season Returns This Year

The final season of the fan-favorite series Cobra Kai is finally arriving and one of the show’s creators has a surprise in store. The show follows the aftermath of the Karate Kid film, meeting the stars of the original films, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), which gave fans another perspective on how the original stories played out. We’ve seen them return to the world of karate, battle old nemeses, and even bury the hatchet and unite as a force for good. It was great, especially with all the past characters returning, and it looks like at least one more surprise is in store.

In a recent post on X, a fan asked one of the show’s co-creators, Jon Hurwitz, “Without naming names, how likely is it that we will see a new appearance in one of the 4 Karate Kid movies?” They included a not-so-subtle photo of Mr. Miyagi with the character Julie Pierce, played by the Oscar winner Hilary Swankin the 1994 film, The next Karate Kid. The two characters are shown in the photo with a hawk, and the OP added (obviously thinking of the hawk).

Hurwitz responded, joking:

“I can’t promise the hawk or any Oscar winners in this picture — I’ll never give away potential spoilers — but rest assured we’ll have at least one character from the Karate Kid films who hasn’t yet appeared on Cobra Kai.”

It has been speculated that Swank was the last remaining piece of Karate Kid lore to visit the series. I think it would be a lot of fun to see her return to the character. This show was a true love letter to the original films. It will be sad to see it end, but it’s a really fun story told, and I think it will go out on a positive note.
