Walt Disney’s very first Mickey Mouse design, The steamboat Willieentered the public domain this year and the upcoming horror video game Infestation 88 reinvented Mickey Mouse as a monstrous villain.
Infestation 88 is a co-op horror game where you play as an exterminator treating sinister infestations caused by twisted versions of classic characters and urban legends.
Nightmare Forge developed the game and came with the following description: “In the year 1988, what was thought to be a rodent epidemic in various locations turned into something much more sinister.”
IGN shares some additional information: “Sometimes you’ll have to fight, sometimes you’ll have to run, and sometimes you’ll have to hide in a locker. You can set traps and use CCTV cameras to try to stay one step ahead of the infestation, and item placement is randomized to keep games fresh.
In the game, players will explore unique locations and discover the story behind the beginning of each infestation. Find the means to access and unlock new areas. Use cameras to keep an eye on activity. Maintain power to enable different systems. Find the source at all costs.
You will use a variety of extermination equipment to tame the epidemic. Eradicate all nests and monstrous demons lurking everywhere. Run when you can, hide, help your friends: but don’t fall victim to the spread of the infestation.
Players will face and eliminate a horrifying entity, with each episode containing a distinct classic character or urban legend responsible for the infestation.
The gaming experience will be different every time you play as it will have random item layouts, unpredictable AI, and a variety of custom settings to tweak your experience.
