Warner Bros. e George R. R. Martin they are collaborating on several game of Thrones spin-off projects right now. He previously revealed that he has eight other spin-offs in development. This is at the top House of the Dragon AND A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Knight Errant.
One of eight projects in development is Nine trips, and was initially developed as a live-action series. Martin revealed that it is now in development as an animated series. He recently said on his blog:
“It just so happens that HBO and I have our own animated projects, set in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire. None of them have been greenlit yet, but I think we’re getting close to taking the next step with a couple of them. When this latest development cycle began a few years ago, we had four ideas for animated shows, with some great talent attached. Writers’ rooms and summits, outlines and scripts followed in due course… but, alas, two of the original plans were subsequently shelved.”
He then went on to speak specifically Nine trips and why it’s now in development as an animated series:
“Work on the other two animated projects, however, continues apace… and in the meantime, we have moved NINE VOYAGES, our series about the legendary voyages of the Sea Serpent, from live action to animation. A move that I fully support. Budget constraints would probably have made a prohibitively expensive live action version, with half the show taking place at sea and the need to create a different port every week, from Driftmark to Lys to the Basilisk Isles to Volantis to Qarth to … well, and so on. “. There’s a whole world out there. And we have a much better chance of showing it all with animation. So now we have three animated projects going.”
THE Nine trips The story refers to “the great sea voyages taken by Corlys Velaryon aboard the ship Sea Snake. Velaryon traveled to places including Pentos, Dragonstone, and the depths of Westeros, as well as Lys, Tyrosh, and Myr. He reached the fabled lands of Yi Ti and Leng, whose wealth doubled that of House Velaryon, and he and the Ice Wolf headed north in search of a passage around the top of Westeros, only to find frozen seas and icebergs as large as mountains.
As Martin points out, none of the animated projects have gotten the green light yet, but maybe one of them will see the light of day one day. Nine trips This sounds like it would be an epic animated series!
