Lewis “Lew” Rothman, a former entertainment executive and director of business affairs and operations for Strategy PR/Consulting, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday at his home in East Hampton. He was 63.
Rothman has been at the forefront of the intersection of entertainment and technology companies, most recently working at Strategy PR/Consulting, the Coastal Entertainment PR agency specializing in awards campaigns for film studios and television and streaming companies. During his seven years there, he played an important role in the company’s growth.
Rothman previously held a position at the newly formed The Weinstein Company in 2006, where he served as the film studio’s chief technology officer for more than a decade.
Always one step ahead, Rothman and his wife, Serina Mayer, founded in the early 1990s a new media consulting firm, Vibemaster, Inc., which served as a strategic development liaison between entertainment and technology companies, creating multiplatform marketing opportunities that new ways to integrate the growing wave of new media.
Rothman was instrumental in developing the first commercial online casting company, Castnet, and later served as CTO for Atomic Pop, the first online record label founded by prominent recording industry executives Al Teller and Mayer.
East Hampton was his happy place. There he built furniture by hand and worked on sculptures with his Mayer. He was an avid watch collector, a food and coffee connoisseur and had a keen eye for art, architecture and design.
Rothman is survived by his wife/partner of 33 years, Serina. daughter Raella; sisters Barbara Kreiger and Cheryl Ann Krane; extended family consisting of nieces, nephews and cousins; and countless friends who loved him as if he were family.
Those wishing to pay their respects are invited to attend a celebration of his life at the Jewish Center of the Hamptons on January 5, 2024 at 9:30 am. Family and friends who cannot be present in person can also participate in the services virtually.
In lieu of a shiva and sending food to the home, his family said donations can be made to HIAS and The Art Barge in Rothman’s memory.
